Posted on 12/08/2021

Once again this year, CBC’s Canadian Music Class Challenge has compiled some of the best musical talent and performances from schools across Canada. The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) is thrilled to see two of its own in the top 10 of two categories.

Notre Dame Catholic School in Orillia has been chosen for the top ten for Category 10: Indigenous Languages Prize (favourite performance of 'Strawberry Moon (Ode'min Giizis). St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Tottenham has also placed in the top ten for Category 7: Senior Instrumental (Grade 11-12) for “I Got Love.” Videos of their submissions are available below:

The Challenge invites music instructors to teach their students a Canadian song from CBC’s pre-approved list. This year, teachers and students from every province and territory signed up to safely learn and perform their best version of a Canadian song on every instrument imaginable — and in every social distancing scenario imaginable.

SMCDSB is so proud to see two of its schools among some of Canada’s top musical talent and we look forward to seeing the winners announced on Tuesday, Dec. 14.
