School Year Theme: Called to be Our Story

School Year Theme: Called to be Our Story

“I have given you an example, so that you also should do just as I have done.” (John 13:15)

Every year, our Board chooses a spiritual theme. For the 2018-19 school year, our theme is “Called To Be Our Story”.

Over the past year, we have been reflecting on the history of Catholic education in our part of Ontario. Each of our school communities has a unique story that we are proud of and will serve to guide us confidently into the future.

We also share a collective story within our school board - it is the story of God’s love for our world, and the story of Jesus’ life, teaching, death and resurrection. Through baptism, each one of us becomes an important part of that story, and we make it our own.

In our world today, it is not enough to just hear about Jesus; we must also live his story every day through our actions and the choices we make. We can talk about God’s love, mercy and care, but what can we do to put his words into practice so that it is more than just a story? This year’s theme challenges us to be that story - to take what we hear and what we learn and make it a way of life.

Our Christian story becomes more convincing and meaningful when we ourselves demonstrate love, generosity, forgiveness, prayer and honesty. When we let Jesus’ example transform us, our lives become the message we proclaim. Being that story is what we are called to do as baptized Christians, each and every day.
