MARCH 27, 2019 - ORILLIA, ON:  After much success at the regional and provincial level, the robotics team at Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School in Orillia has qualified for a spot at the VEX Robotics World Championship in Louisville Kentucky from April 24-27, 2019.

With two impressive years on the robotics circuit, the four-person team continues to make its mark on the technological landscape, this time on an international level. The team will compete against the best in the world. “We will be joining an elite squad of teams from the GTA - the hub in the world for competitive robotics,” says teacher and lead mentor, Mike Milliard.

The students are overjoyed at the opportunity and can’t wait to put their hard work into action. The team’s lead builder, Logan Woodrow admits there is a nervous anticipation but he is confident in the team’s research and in the design of their bot.

Thanks to the generosity of local sponsors and the support of the Orillia Manufacturer's Association, Patrick Fogarty’s Robotics Academy is able to produce bots that allow them to compete at these levels. The team is reaching out to the community for sponsorship to offset the cost of this year’s competition. “Every year, Ontario teams finish near the top of the standings,” says Milliard. “It’s a huge deal to qualify south of the border. We couldn’t do it without our sponsors and greatly appreciate help from the community.”

With continued support, this team of young engineers will be well on its way to world recognition!
