Summary of CPIC Events 2016-2017

The Catholic Parent Involvement Committee, CPIC, enjoyed many events and programs throughout the 2016-2017 school year.

The list of CPIC Events for the 2016-2017 school year are as follows:
At this time of Truth and Reconciliation, we begin each CPIC Meeting with the Territorial Acknowledgement, which acknowledges the many Indigenous Nations, the Original People of this continent, often referred to Turtle Island

On, Thursday, November 3, 2016, a CPIC Commissioning Evening event was held at St. Joan of Arc CHS in Barrie. School Councils and parents were invited. The Commissioning Evening began with a mass led by the Most Rev. Bishop Kirkpatrick and accompanied by the St. Joan of Arc CHS Band.  After the mass, there were refreshments followed by  a variety of 7 different break-out sessions that were available to all participants.  Topics included, Inclusion, Mental Health & Wellness, Volunteerism & School Council Best Practices, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Initiatives, New Religion Curriculum, Special Education, Renewed Math Strategy - Elementary and Secondary, Transition from Elementary to  Secondary and the new Board App.

On Monday, November 7, 2016, CPIC held elections for the new school year and welcomed returning Members and many new Members, including the new Chair, Donna Ionta and new Vice Chair, Sandra Bauer Heinz.

At CPIC’s February 13, 2017 meeting, a presentation was made to CPIC from the Finance Department’s regarding “Cashless Schools” as a Pilot Project. This initiative was supported and well received by CPIC.

On Saturday, April 22, 2017, 4 of our CPIC members attended the Barrie Regional Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) Symposium.

The OAPCE Conference has been delayed and will occur on Saturday, October 14, 2017.  CPIC will be sending up to 2 of our CPIC members.

An evening regarding Mental Health for Every Age was proposed as a community support in three different areas of the board.
