What is a Catholic Trustee?

The election of school board trustees is governed by the province of Ontario. Trustees are elected during municipal elections, which with recent changes to legislation, means there will be an election every four years.

Catholic school board trustees who were successful in the October 2018 municipal elections, will represent Catholic school supporters until November 2022.

The Chair and the Vice-Chair of the Board are elected annually at the Inaugural or Initial meeting of the Board, usually held in the first week of December, and serve a one-year term of office.

What qualifications do you need to run as a trustee?

According to the Education Act a candidate must hold and retain the following qualifications:

  • A Canadian citizen

  • A Roman Catholic

  • 18 years of age or older

  • A resident within the jurisdiction of the Board
