St. Joseph's Rowing Team Competes at National Rowing Championships

For the past five months, the St. Joseph’s Catholic High School rowing team has been training endlessly in preparation for their season. Back in January, the athletes were running 5K and circuit training, before finally being able to get themselves onto Kempenfelt Bay after the ice had melted. Five days a week, the students were out practising bright and early, and were lucky enough to witness the sunrise each morning.

After winning two gold medals, one silver and one bronze at the London regatta, the team was off to compete at the Canada Secondary Schools Rowing Championship in St. Catharines. The competition took place from June 3-5 with St. Joseph’s CHS having several Jr. and Sr. boy and girl teams facing off against teams from across North America.

The weekend highlight was performed by the Senior boys four (Carson Visser, Dario Zecca, Michael Gallant, Jonah Gallant and Josh Spicker). For the first time in ten years, the crew qualified for the finals and rowed a personal best, finishing in 6th place.

Every crew on the St. Joseph’s rowing team has shown tremendous dedication and improvement throughout the season. Their accomplishments are well-deserved and we would like to congratulate all of their efforts. Well done team!
