Every week we celebrate individuals in the SMCDSB community who have been recognized for going above and beyond to help others during the COVID-19 pandemic. This week we are celebrating Janine Burrage and Tanya Phillips.

Janine Burrage is the office administrator at  St. Antoine Daniel Catholic School in Victoria Harbour. She was nominated by a staff member who said:

“Janine has demonstrated service to our community by goingbeyond the extra mile. Upon request for sewing some face masks for a local long term care home, she went above and beyond all expectations by sewing 130 face masks for 3 local long term care and retirement homes. She truly embodies our Christian faith by helping our fellow community members. She truly sets an excellent example. Thank you Janine for all that you have done and all that you do!”

Tanya Phillips is an educational assistant at St. Monica's Catholic School in Barrie. She was nominated by a staff member who said:

"Ms. Phillip's focus each day is to lead with compassion. She has been an tanya phillipseducational assistant at St. Monica's for many years. She is an asset to our school and shares her warm and loving ways each day and so helps to contribute to a supportive and accepting learning environment. She has a keen eye for those students that need understanding and a listening ear. In the early days of the lockdown she and a parent organized a food drive for our families. She facilitated this so that our neediest families would have the security of food. There is no one like her. We, the staff and students of St. Monica's School are blessed to have her with us!"

We would like to thank Janine and Tanya for their incredible effort in helping others during this time.
