Local Veteran Nearing His Terry Fox Goal

Local Veteran Nearing His Terry Fox Goal

Over the next couple of weeks, Canadians across the country will lace up their running shoes to take part in another Terry Fox Run. Schools at the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) have always been active participants and have raised almost 1.3 million dollars to date. This year, we hope that some of our schools will help Barrie resident Will Dwyer hit his lifetime fundraising goal.

The 94-year old veteran has been organizing “We WILL Walk” for 39 years and is finally closing in on his goal of one million dollars for the Terry Fox Foundation. Along with a group of volunteers, Will recently left the Borden Legacy Park on a 20 kilometer walk to the Barrie Cenotaph in order to raise funds for the foundation.

After the long hike, the goal is in close reach at $971,000.00 and Will is confident that he can reach it this year but he needs our help.  Will was recently diagnosed with cancer himself so it limits his physical ability to continue to collect donations. With assistance from students, staff and community members, we can step forward and help Will reach a “Mill.”

Last year, students and staff from multiple SMCDSB schools contributed to the foundation in Will’s name and we are hopeful that more will donate this year.  In addition to organizing a run, some schools may also sell Terry Fox t-shirts. Those proceeds will be added to the school’s donation total.

Please consider contributing to his goal by:

1. Submitting your donation cheque with the memo “for Will Dwyer collection” to the Terry Fox Foundation

2. Sending your package to the Terry Fox Foundation with a note indicating your wish for the funds to be submitted to Will’s collection

3. Donating online to
Will Dwyer’s collection page
