Audit Committee Seeking Volunteer

The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board is seeking one volunteer Audit Committee Member.

The candidate should be a Catholic community member with financial expertise and business knowledge. This position is for a three-year term effective Spring 2023. The Audit Committee is made up of three Trustees and two independent Catholic members from the community.

Fundamental to this role is an understanding of how to manage risk in a large, complex organization. The individual should be knowledgeable in the principles of governance and should appreciate the role of the Committee as being advisory to management and to the Board.

Candidate Eligibility

Applicant must: 
  • be a Catholic ratepayer; 
  • have accounting, senior financial management or other relevant business experience to understand public sector accounting and auditing standards; 
  • not be a current employee or officer of SMCDSB or any other district school board or school authority; and 
  • not have a parent, child or spouse currently employed by the Board.

Audit Committee Terms of Reference 

The terms of reference for the Audit Committee of the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board are set out in Ontario Regulation 361/10. The term of office for Audit Committee members who are members of the Board of Trustees is one (1) year. The term of office for Audit Committee members who are not Board members is three (3) years. Members of the committee are reimbursed for out-of-pocket expenses for travel to meetings and attendance at training sessions at Board-approved rates.
