Celebrating Staff LogoEvery week we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a colleague.

This week we are celebrating Anne Marie Brunner and Anne Marie Brunner and Yolanta Zdyb Yolanta Zdyb, custodians at St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic School. Anne Marie and Yolanta were nominated by two colleagues, who said:

“I would like to nominate our custodial staff (Anne Marie Brunner and Yolanta Zdyb) from St. Marguerite d'Youville for the honour of the celebration of staff. The reason I am sending it via email is I would like to share what they have created for our students. These are the murals on our walls at St. Marguerite d'Youville that they painted. These murals are inspirational to our students, staff and visitors to our school.

A second colleague contributed to the nomination.

“I will pipe in as well. The team of custodians at MDY are unbelievable. They are part of the MDY whole school team. They work incredibly hard to keep our building a safe, and clean place to be. They are always one step ahead! A student yesterday said, "Our custodians, we love our custodians." The students cheered and clapped when we did a virtual unveiling of the three newest murals virtually. They really do deserve this recognition.”

Mabelle ClaerThis week we are also celebrating Mabelle Claer. Mabelle is a DECE at Saint Mary Catholic School in Huntsville. Mabelle was nominated by a colleague, who said:

“Saint Mary’s school is blessed to have Mabelle Claer as a DECE in our JK/SK classroom. Mabelle has an inexhaustible spirit and is very quick to share her joyful personality with staff and students. With her teaching partner, she creates learning environments that support all student’s learning styles. Mabelle is warm, compassionate, and energetic and her students know that they can count on her whenever they need her. She shares their excitement as they learn through play and is quick to offer words of encouragement and kindness.

Aside from her commitment to student learning, Mabelle also offers her support to other educators and is keen to collaborate with them. She shares her creativity and many talents in both face-to-face and online formats. These pandemic years have been challenging, but Mabelle has been a ray of sunshine.

Mabelle is always willing to go above and beyond for our school and community. For years, she has helped guide and support students of all ages as the drama club leader and the school yearbook coordinator. Despite restrictions on cohorting, she continues to work with her yearbook group virtually so that our school will enjoy another beautiful book of memories at the end of the school year. Despite the difficulties of pivoting to online learning and back, Mabelle helped create Liturgical celebrations and Christmas presentations shared with students and families. She has a beautiful singing voice and volunteers in the choir and creates the PowerPoint presentations for Sunday Masses at our local parish.

We are all so very grateful for Mabelle’s friendly smile, welcoming presence, collaborative efforts, and excellence in education at Saint Mary's School.”

We would like to thank Anne Marie, Yolanta, and Mabelle for their commitment to Catholic education at our board.
