Every week, we celebrate SMCDSB staff members who have been recognized by a parent, student, or colleague.
This week, we are celebrating Patrick Dooley, a teacher
and coach at St. Joseph’s Catholic High School. Patrick was nominated by a colleague who said:
“Patrick Dooley is an occasional teacher with our board, and although he retired from teaching full-time, he has volunteered for the last 5 years, coaching the St. Joe's basketball program. He has been an assistant with the Senior and Junior Girls Basketball teams and the Senior Boys Basketball teams, and was on the boys' coaching staff that won an OFSSA AA gold medal in 2024 and an Antique bronze medal in 2025. Coach Dooley has been the head coach of the Junior Boys basketball teams that have won 5 CSASC championships and 4 GBSSA championships. He volunteers his time during morning practices and runs for the basketball players who are motivated to get better after catching the "Dooley fever". Mr. Dooley is a regular supply teacher at St. Joe's, where he connects with students both on and off the basketball court and is a valuable staff member. Thank you, Coach Dooley, for your commitment to St. Joe's and Catholic education! ”
This week, we are also celebrating Clayton Hannah, a database administrator at the Catholic Education Centre (CEC). Clayton was nominated by a colleague who said:
“When we first moved to PowerSchool Special Programs, Clayton was a godsend in working with the Academic Services team on using the program, different tools within the program, and in particular - helping us with the creation of custom documents that would meet the needs of our specific school board ... but his help didn't stop there! Whenever we have had a question or needed a change since then - he has been on it! His turnaround time is nothing short of miraculous ... sooo quick! Most recently, I had tried to do something myself with a form update ... bad idea ... and Clayton was -- without judgement -- and quickly worked to not only undo whatever I had done, but made the changes I had *tried* to make! We couldn't do this without him!”
This week, we are also celebrating Kayla Mills and
Paisley Abrams, educational assistants at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School. Kayla and Paisley were nominated by a colleague who said:
“Kayla and Paisley, the educational assistants in the Grade 5/6 class at St. Peter the Apostle, are truly exceptional in every sense of the word. They consistently go above and beyond to ensure that every child feels supported, valued, and capable of success, no matter the challenge. Their positive energy and genuine care create an environment where students can thrive, and their impact is felt far beyond the classroom. They are not only invaluable members of the team, but also inspiring role models for both students and colleagues alike.”
Finally, this week, we are also celebrating Sophia Nogalo, a teacher at St. Monica’s Catholic School. Sophia was nominated by a parent who said:
“Ms. Nogalo is a teacher who brings a great deal of energy, and enthusiasm to her classroom. She creates a fun, and engaging learning environment where students are encouraged to work together, and build positive relationships. Through teamwork, and creative learning activities, she helps students stay motivated, and excited about learning. Ms. Nogalo is truly committed to supporting her students, and helping them succeed.”
