SMCDSB Graduate Writes Song for Catholic Education Week

SMCDSB Graduate Writes Song for Catholic Education Week
Posted on 05/08/2020

MAY 7, 2020 - BARRIE, ON: The first week in May is Catholic Education Week and every year it is celebrated in many different ways by Catholic schools throughout the province of Ontario. The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB), which includes 50 schools, planned many activities for teachers and families to enjoy virtually from their homes in all four corners of the district.

Bringing everything together, is a wonderful song of hope, written expressly for this year’s theme of Catholic Education Week, Igniting Hope. The song was written by Chris Rait, one of SMCDSB’s very own graduates.

Chris Rait is a teacher and singer/songwriter. He has many musical highlights on his resume, including performing with Fred Penner, opening for Ron Sexsmith, and touring with Benjamin Dakota Rogers. Chris was a student at St. James Catholic School in Colgan, Father F.X. O’Reilly Catholic School in Tottenham and was part of the first graduating class from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School.

Chris’s teaching career began at the SMCDSB as an educational assistant. Currently, he is the Arts Consultant with the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board.

Hope is a song that calls us to remember who we are, and is perfect for this very unique time in our world, and for Catholic Education Week.

Listen to Hope, by Chris Rait.
