Deanne Rose Scores Her Way Into Olympic History

Deanne Rose Scores Her Way Into Olympic History

Sadly, the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro have come to an end, but the accomplishments made by Team Canada will continue to be praised. We would like to particularly recognize Deanne Rose from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Tottenham, who was the youngest member of Team Canada Women’s Soccer.

The women’s soccer team were undefeated through the Olympic games, until losing to Germany in the semi-final. They went on to compete for the bronze medal against the host country, Brazil, and despite a rowdy audience cheering against them, the team came out on top.

Deanne Rose used her talents when it counted the most, scoring one goal and assisting Christine Sinclair for a second, making the final score 2-1. This is the second time the team has been on the Olympic podium, winning back-to-back bronze medals.

If scoring a goal wasn’t exciting enough, ESPN Stats & Info tweeted, “Deanne Rose of #CAN is the youngest goal scorer in women's #Olympics soccer tournament history (17 years, 170 days).” What better way to end an Olympic debut, than to make Olympic history!

Please join us in congratulating Deanne! We can’t wait to see all of the achievements that are sure to come for this outstanding athlete.
