Finn, a Grade 6 student at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Collingwood, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) the day he was born. CF is the most common, fatal, genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults, and unfortunately, there is no cure. Finn has been transferred from hospital to hospital, has had intensive chest physiotherapy, countless surgeries, and still manages to maintain a smiling face through it all.

Finn has recently started taking part in a safety and efficiency trial for new CF medication. This medication is not a cure, but it is supposed to prevent further damage from occurring in his lungs. Test results are kept confidential, even to his own family, but by looking at Finn, they can tell that it is already giving him some relief.

On Sunday, May 29, 2016 Finn’s family is participating in Carstar’s Great Strides Walk, which will be held at St. Vincent Park in Barrie. Their team name is Team Finn Murphy and is welcoming anyone to join in or donate to the cause. The group is closing in on their goal of $20,000 in funds raised by friends and family, and anyone is able to donate to help them surpass their target. All money raised will help support the work of Cystic Fibrosis Canada, which supports research and provides supplementary support for CF treatment programs at 41 CF clinics across Canada and five transplant centres.
