“A good teacher is like a candle - it consumes itself to light the way for others” - Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

If you asked the students at Holy Trinity Catholic High School (HTR) in Bradford West Gwillimbury to name their favourite teacher there would be a lot of different answers because we are blessed to have a lot of great teachers. But one might edge out the others - Mr. Strycharz is a favourite teacher for many HTR students because of his approach to teaching and the emotional connection he makes with his classes.

Mr. Strycharz has been working for Holy Trinity as a history teacher for 20 years. Strycharz has dedicated much of his time running and coordinating events at the school, including the Europe D-Day Trip and Holy Trinity’s Veterans Breakfast.

The students agree that his big personality is what makes him a great teacher. Gr. 11 student, Michelle D. shares, “Mr. Strycharz’s personality makes classes you’d normally find maybe a little dull, interesting and makes you want to learn.” According to his classes, Strycharz’s use of humour while teaching encourages people to express their opinion. He believes that students not only learn through text books but also through their daily life, as he often uses stories to help explain his lessons.

Mr. Strycharz is said to be able to see beyond the classroom and minimum teacher expectations as he reaches out to his students daily, attempting to relate and understand them. Gr.11 student Lauren V. expresses how she personally feels, “Mr. Strycharz will walk to the end of the earth to help you.”

His approach to teaching and his vibrant personality makes him one of the many favoured teachers at Holy Trinity. The staff and students agree that he tries his best to make his classes fun and never fails to make people smile or laugh.
