After competing at the 2019 National Youth Track and Field Championships, which took place from Aug. 9 to 11., Martin is coming home with both gold and bronze medals.

Martin placed first in the women under-16 300-metre dash with a time of 39.57 seconds. The next day, in the 200-metre dash, she ran a time of 25.51 seconds, finishing third.

Martin, who is entering Grade 10 at St. Joan of Arc high school in Barrie, competed for Team Ontario. She trains with the South Simcoe Dufferin Track Club.

The Canadian National Youth Track and Field Championships were held at Cape Breton University Campus in Sydney, N.S.

The event is the only Canadian-wide competition for under-16 and under-18 athletes. It is organized by the Royal Canadian Legion and was established in 1977.

The National Youth Track and Field Championships will return to Cape Breton Aug. 7 to 9, 2020.
